When there is a change in your visa, or residence card, you need to let your local government know about the change. But how about your passport?:
I know some of you are concerned about some things. For example:
*Your visa stamp in your passport.
You do not need to go to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to have another visa stamped on your new passport. Please make sure to carry both your old and new passport if you need to leave japan.
*The sticker proving that you have a permission for activities other than that permitted under your current visa.
You do not need to go to the Immigration Bureau to get another sticker attached to your new passport. Please make sure to keep your old passport.
