If you have been a spouse of a Japanese citizen for 3 years and lived in Japan for 1 continuous year, you are eligible for permanent residency.
You might wonder what “1 continuous year” means. In other words, you might wonder if you are not eligible anymore if you go back to your home country and spend 10 days or 2 weeks.
In this case, you still are eligible for permanent residency; however, the Immigration Bureau might ask you the purpose of your trip and other matters in the process of screening. If the Immigration Bureau finds it inappropriate, your application might be denied. Your trip should not be negatively taken into account as long as your purpose is, for example, to see your parents and friends for 10 days or 2 weeks.
