If you have, for example, an Engineer/ Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa and voluntarily resign, you have to either find the next job or leave Japan in 3 months.
But if you have a spouse who also has the above visa and keeps working, but you cannot find a next job in 3 months, you can change your visa to “Dependent” and keep looking for a job in Japan. You can also apply for a permission for activities other than that allowed under the current status, and if this also is approved, you can both keep looking for a new job and temporarily work at places such as convenience stores upto 28 hours per week.
Furthermore, if, for example, your spouse’s period of stay is 5 years, and there are 3 more years left, you might be able to stay in Japan for 3 years under a Dependent Visa.
