“Why does a “statement of reason” matter?:

The Immigration Bureau shows all the necessary documents for application of each visa. But I almost never submit these documents alone. I usually submit a statement of reason for application and other evidence too.

My fellow immigration lawyers say a statement of reason is more than 90% of the factor for success. It is quite true, but one of the statements of reason I have written has worked differently.

I once filed an application for renewal of the period of stay of a certain Dependent visa holder. That person’s period of stay was 3 months before renewal. That person’s spouse had to renew the period of stay of his “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, and his period of stay was 1 year before renewal.

I applied for 3 years after renewal for his “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services. Hence, his spouse should be allowed to stay for the same length.

His spouse, in the end, was allowed to stay 3 years from 3 months after renewal. Unless I had carefully explained the circumstances and provided evidence such as a copy of her spouse’s application form and his old residence card, it would not have been successful.

I am proud to be able to contribute to their successful renewal of period of stay with the statement of reason I wrote.
