The requirements for naturalization will be stricter from April:

The government has just decided to make the requirement stricter for naturalization. The new requirement will be enforced from April.  Five consecutive years of stay in Japan was the requirement for naturalization till now, but 10 years will be required from April.

The punctual payment of your income taxes and social security taxes of the past 1 year also was the requirement, but 5 years will be required for income taxes, and 2 years will be required for social security taxes from April.

There is no announcement as to whether there will be any exception for a certain current resident status (for example, if you have the Spouse (or a Child) of a Japanese National, you need to to be married for 3 years and have lived in Japan for 1 year whereas anyone of the working status must have lived in Japan for 10 years to be eligible for permanent residency) now, but I will post it if such exceptions are announced later.
